What is SURE?
Speak Up for Rural Electrification (SURE) is the state political action committee (PAC) for the Electric Cooperatives of Oklahoma.
SURE adds strength to our individual voices on a grassroots level and offers us the opportunity to have a greater impact on the future of electric cooperatives by allowing us ti help those friends of the program who seek elected offices.
SURE money is used only to support candidates for state offices - all SURE money stays within the state.
What is a Political Action Committee?
A political action committee (PAC) is a group of people with common goals who pool their money in order to financially support candidates running for elected office. A PAC supports political candidates who represent the interests and views of its members.
How does SURE work?
SURE consist of an 8 member Executive Sub-Committee of both managers and directors from across the state. Each member is elected to a 3-year term on a rotating basis at the SURE annual meeting.
The sub-committee meets regularly throughout the year to determine contribution amounts and recipients.
Who participates in SURE?
Membership in SURE is open to all employees, managers, attorneys, directors and members of the electric cooperatives across the state, as well as members of their families.
SURE currently has over 1,000 members from all 30 cooperatives and at the statewide office.
How long will I be a member of SURE?
SURE memberships are annual and ren from January 1 through December 31.
How much does a SURE membership cost?
Annual SURE memberships are $5 per month ($60/year) for employees and directors and $10 per month ($120/year) from managers and attorneys.
However, any contribution to SURE is accepted and appreciated. There memberships costs are just suggestions.
How do I pay?
It is your choice! Most members elect to have monthly deductionsfrom their paycheck rather than pay the full membership at once. You can arrange payment options with your cooperative.
